Aerial footage appeared to show the aircraft broken into two pieces in a football-field-sized area of scorched earth inside the base. The crash also ignited a fire in a field just north of State Route 52, with smoke visible from the freeway, prompting multiple calls to the California Highway Patrol. Emergency responders remained at the scene as black smoke continued to billow from the crash site.
