A 23-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in Karnataka’s Bagalkot district after he suspected her of having an extramarital affair, police said. The accused was arrested after allegedly assaulting the woman, hanging her and then forcing her parents to witness her final moments through a video call.

The incident took place on Sunday evening in Galagali village of Bilagi taluk. The accused, identified as Praveen Jigalur, allegedly attacked his wife, Bhagyashree Jigalur, with a wooden log before hanging her inside their home.
According to investigators, he recorded videos after the assault and also made a video call to Bhagyashree’s parents while she was still struggling for life. Police said he later shared the footage with several people.
Initial investigations suggest the couple had been facing marital problems for some time. Frequent disputes had reportedly led Bhagyashree to leave her matrimonial home nearly two months ago. She had been staying with her parents in Mahalingpur during this period.
Killed Within Hours Of Return To Matrimonial Home
Police said Praveen recently persuaded her to return home, assuring her that they would resolve their differences and live together peacefully. However, investigators believe the woman was allegedly killed within hours of her return.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, with residents describing the circumstances surrounding the death as deeply disturbing. Investigators are examining the alleged motive behind the crime, including the husband’s suspicion that his wife was involved in an extramarital relationship. Statements of family members and other witnesses are being recorded as part of the probe.
Police officials also recovered digital evidence, including videos allegedly recorded by the accused. Forensic teams are expected to examine electronic devices and other evidence collected from the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
The accused has been taken into custody by Bilagi Police and a case has been registered. Authorities said further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
