New Delhi: A 52-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife to death with a pair of scissors after suspecting her of having an extramarital affair. The accused was arrested near Moradabad railway station in Uttar Pradesh after allegedly fleeing Delhi following the murder.
The incident took place on July 16 at the couple’s home in Seelampur’s Gautampuri area. Police reached the house after receiving information about the incident around 7.30 pm and found the 45-year-old woman lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries.
She was immediately taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Police registered a murder case and called the crime team and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to examine the scene and collect evidence.
During the investigation, officers found that the woman’s husband, Saleem, was missing from the house after the incident, making him the prime suspect.
A police team scanned CCTV footage, analysed technical evidence and gathered local intelligence to trace his movements. He was eventually tracked down near the Moradabad railway station in Uttar Pradesh and arrested on Saturday.
According to police, Saleem allegedly confessed during interrogation and said he believed his wife was involved in an illicit relationship with one of her former colleagues at a garment factory. The suspicion had reportedly led to frequent arguments between the couple.
Police said the couple had another argument on the day of the incident, following which the accused allegedly attacked his wife with a pair of scissors. He then locked the house and fled the scene.
Investigators have recovered the alleged murder weapon and the accused’s blood-stained clothes. Further investigation into the case is underway.
