Why A 'Chosen Sister' Is The Most Honest Relationship – And The Strongest Emotional Backbone – A Woman Can Have

Women in their prime working years (26-49) emerged as the most emotionally burdened group experiencing loneliness, relationship strain, workplace stress, and emotional burnout while balancing multiple roles. And these are also the years when female friendships tend to run deepest, forged in shared apartments, late office nights, and the specific solidarity of being a woman navigating a life that was not entirely designed with you in mind. India’s 2024 Time Use Survey, covering over 10 million observations, documented a stark “friendship penalty” of marriage: Women’s participation in social activities drops by 52% after marriage, while men’s drops by only 23%. Meaning, before marriage, and sometimes well beyond it, female friendships become the most consistent emotional relationship in a woman’s life.
