A 45-year-old man was killed after a speeding Scorpio SUV hit him while he was walking home from work with a friend in Delhi’s Rajouri Garden. Police have arrested the driver and seized the vehicle.

The victim has been identified as Uday Kumar, also known as Uday Mahato, a resident of Khyala. He worked at a private shop in Rajouri Garden.

According to police, the accident took place on Saturday in west Delhi. Uday was walking home with his friend, Subhash Kumar, a resident of Raghubir Nagar, after finishing work when the speeding SUV rammed into him and fled the spot.

“The speeding SUV struck Uday, while his friend narrowly escaped,” an eyewitness told police during the investigation.

Subhash immediately rushed Uday to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Police said they received information about the accident through a hospital notification and immediately began an investigation.

The eyewitness noted the registration number of the SUV and shared it with police, helping investigators identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. A crime team inspected the accident site, although the SUV had already fled.

Police later arrested the accused driver, identified as 25-year-old Devansh Kumar, a resident of Naraina Vihar. The Scorpio involved in the accident has also been seized. Police said a post-mortem examination was conducted and the body was handed over to the victim’s family.

On Saturday, the victim’s wife and two children demanded strict action against the accused driver. Further investigation is underway.
