AIIMS Gives Final Word On Twisha Sharma's Death To CBI: Skin Tissue On Gymnastics Belt Matches Neck Injury

aiims gives cbi final word on twisha sharma death in 11 pages report: skin tissue on gymnastics belt with metal ring

New Delhi: The AIIMS Delhi medical board has submitted its final 11-page forensic opinion to the Central Bureau of Investigation in a sealed cover in the Twisha Sharma death case, resolving a key forensic dispute over the ligature material allegedly used in her death.

According to officials, the AIIMS panel report mentions the presence of skin tissue on the ligature material, a gymnastics belt with a metal ring, and states that it is consistent with the injury marks found on the body. Laboratory and histopathological examinations confirmed the presence of skin tissue on the ligature material, establishing that it matched the injury pattern, sources told Times Now. The board’s final opinion, however, remains confidential as it has been submitted to the CBI in a sealed cover in compliance with court directions.

Dr. Sudhir Gupta, who headed the medical board, told Times Now that the board conducted an exhaustive review of the case. “Based on this assessment, the board has submitted a comprehensive, scientifically supported opinion,” he said, describing it as a clear conclusion intended to assist the CBI and the judiciary in the interest of truth and justice.

CBI officials said they are currently studying and analysing the AIIMS panel report.

The second postmortem was ordered by the Madhya Pradesh High Court after Twisha’s family raised questions over the first autopsy report. The key forensic dispute centred on whether the gymnastics belt with a metal ring allegedly used was the actual ligature and whether it matched the injuries on Twisha Sharma’s neck. The first postmortem could not establish this because the alleged ligature material was not produced before the medical board during the original autopsy, prompting the court to order the AIIMS examination.

The Case And The Investigation

Twisha Sharma, 33, a native of Noida, was found dead at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal on May 12, under circumstances that remain under scrutiny and are currently being investigated by the CBI.

Her husband, Samarth Singh’s family, has claimed she was battling drug addiction, a version her parents have strongly rejected. Twisha’s family has instead accused her in-laws of subjecting her to harassment over dowry demands, turning the case into a high-stakes dispute over the cause and circumstances of her death.

Following Twisha’s death, the Bhopal police lodged an FIR against her husband and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, under Sections 80(2) (dowry death), 85 (cruelty by husband or in-laws towards a married woman), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Samarth Singh, the lawyer son of former judge and Bhopal Consumer Court chairperson Giribala Singh, had allegedly been absconding for more than a week after her death, before eventually surrendering.
