Parts of the revered Triambakeshwar Jyotirling temple in Maharashtra’s Nashik were seen submerged after relentless rainfall triggered waterlogging in the region. Visuals circulating online showed rainwater entering the temple premises, with portions of the shrine surrounded by floodwater as heavy showers continued to lash the state.

The visuals come as Maharashtra battles widespread flooding and rain-related disruption following days of incessant rainfall. Several districts have witnessed waterlogged roads, disrupted transport services and damage to public infrastructure.

One of the worst-hit areas was Palghar district, where heavy rain for the fourth consecutive day brought normal life to a standstill. At Vasai Road railway station, thousands of commuters were stranded after train services towards Virar were suspended due to flooding.

Videos from the station showed overcrowded platforms, train display boards showing “00:00 hours” for all services, and some passengers attempting to cross railway tracks in search of alternative transport. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the district on Wednesday.

While the rain has brought much-needed relief from the heat, it has also resulted in casualties and widespread damage.

Two boys, aged 17 and 14, drowned in floodwaters in Malad and Govandi on Monday evening. In another incident, two women sustained injuries after cement sheets from a nearby structure collapsed while they were practising yoga at a garden in Lokhandwala, Andheri. Both are reported to be in stable condition.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai recorded 428 incidents of tree and branch falls, including 111 in the city, 126 in the eastern suburbs and 191 in the western suburbs. Civic authorities also received 28 complaints of partial wall and house collapses, along with 24 incidents of short circuits. No injuries were reported in those incidents.
