The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) will mark its return to power on Monday (today, May 18), two weeks after the assembly election results were declared on May 4. Congress leader VD Satheesan will be sworn in as the Chief Minister, along with other cabinet colleagues, including that of the alliance member – The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). Today’s event will mark the end of 10-year-old Left rule in Kerala, also the last state where it was in power. On May 4, the Congress-led UDF alliance won the assembly election with a decisive mandate, together winning a total of 106 seats with Congress bagging 63 and its alliance partner 22, among other regional allies.
