Mumbai-Pune Expressway Missing Link Or Missing Accountability? Rs 7,000-Crore Project Under Scanner

India’s road users are paying a heavy price- not just with triple taxation but with project lapses that are impacting their safety and lives. Barely nine weeks after its inauguration, the Rs 6,695-crore Missing Link on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway suffered its first major monsoon disruption after a landslide damaged a retaining structure near Tunnel 2, forcing the closure of the Pune-to-Mumbai carriageway. While traffic on the Mumbai-to-Pune side resumed from today (the next morning around 10 am) the incident on the Pune-Mumbai corridor has led to questions on accountability and infrastructure experts are now demanding an independent probe into the project’s design, quality and geological assessment.
