After RG Kar, Bengal Promised 'Never Again'. Then Came Baruipur

Two years after the RG Kar horror, West Bengal is at a hauntingly familiar crossroads again – this time, over the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Baruipur. A child, who had stepped out of her house with excitment, carrying money, as per some reports, to buy a birthday gift for a friend, never came back. The next day, her body was discovered from a pond. She was found with severe head injuries, bite and scratch marks all over her body, and wounds on her private parts. Her post-mortem report indicated sexual assault and death due to drowning. Her stomach and lungs were filled with pond water, the report said, indicating that the child was alive when thrown into the pond.
