It was 1961 when the Indian Government banned the practice of dowry exchange, yet India is still witnessing harassment, murders, and even deaths of women in relation to dowry. Just 3 years after their marriage, a Karnataka man allegedly strangled his wife, a nurse, to death in Dharwad. The death was allegedly followed by repeated abuse. Reportedly, the police are investigating the matter, and so far, dowry harassment is being suspected. The accused has been identified as Basavaraj Waddar, who had married the victim, Priyanka Kamalakar, in 2024.
