He converted a free kick in the 80th minute to give Argentina a 3-1 lead in the match. Earlier, goals by Lo Celso and Lautaro Martinez had put Argentina in the driver’s seat, but a late strike by Jordan’s Al-Tamari had brought life back into the contest.

Meanwhile, it was a remarkable achievement by Messi, who became the first player in the world to score in seven consecutive FIFA World Cup matches. Messi broke the record of Just Fontaine of France and Jairzinho of Brazil, who scored goals in six consecutive World Cup matches.
Messi scored a hat trick against Algeria and then scored two goals against Austria before hitting one against Jordan during the ongoing FIFA World Cup. He had also scored in each of the last four matches of the FIFA World Cup 2022, where he led Argentina to their third World Cup title.
