India’s two-match T20I series in Belfast will kick off on Friday. This marks the start of their white-ball tours of Ireland and England. Team India will play three ODIs and seven T20Is between June 26 and July 19. The world champions, led by new captain Shreyas Iyer, will play their opening match at the Civil Service Cricket Club Ground against the hosts, Ireland. India has won all eight of their T20I encounters with Ireland.
During India’s final tour of Ireland in 2023, the visitors won the three-match series 2-0 after one match was abandoned without a toss. Ireland has suffered a serious injury setback with veteran players like Paul Stirling, Mark Adair, Joshua Little, and Curtis Campher unavailable to play in the series. Lorcan Tucker, the new full-time captain, will be leading the hosts against the Men in Blue.
India’s team has also had to make changes due to injuries. Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge have been selected to replace Varun Chakaravarthy and Nitish Reddy, respectively.
However, the biggest talking point from the match is the potential senior team debut for teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The Rajasthan Royals opener would be creating history if he is selected in the playing XI for the opening T20I.
