FIFA World Cup 2026 Breaks Historic Attendance Record Despite US Travel Chaos

The record which was set when the United States previously hosted the FIFA World Cup in 1994, has finally been surpassed, making the 2026 edition the most attended edition of the tournament in history. However, the milestone coincides with mounting criticism of the tournament’s organisational problems, visa restrictions, and skyrocketing ticket prices. FIFA confirmed the new record at Germany’s Group E encounter against Ecuador at MetLife Stadium, when attendance surpassed 3,605,357 following the first 56 games. The previous record of 3.587 million spectators set at the USA 1994 was surpassed.
