Vaibhav Sooryavanshi signed off from Sri Lanka with a big knock and slammed 94 off just 29 balls. Batting with a strike rate of 324.14, Sooryavanshi slammed 8 sixes and 14 fours in his knock. The left-handed batter added 132 runs for the first wicket with Priyansh Arya before getting dismissed. Sooryavanshi, who breached the 50-run mark in only 11 balls, missed out on a well-deserved century. Courtesy of his knock, India put on a big total of 377/9 on the board. Aakash Chopra was in awe of Sooryavanshi’s heroics and he opined that his batting style is embarrassing everyone a little.
“What is this kid doing? He is embarrassing everyone a little. He will make everyone feel a little insecure at the start, as to how he can play like this, because all of us are playing there only. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Priyansh Arya, and Tilak Varma were also there. It is a very decent India A squad,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“However, when this kid starts hitting, it seems like he is at a different level. He reached his fifty off 11 balls. He is breaking List A records for fun, and that too in a final. He scored 94 in the final here, 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final, and you can see the Eliminator against the SunRisers Hyderabad and the Qualifier 2 against the Gujarat Titans,” he added.
Apart from Sooryavanshi, Anukul Roy also played with a strike of more than 200 and he slammed 39 off just 15 balls. Batting at 260, Anukul hit 4 sixes and a four. India A restricted Sri Lanka A to 311 to register a 66-run win.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to join Team India
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will now join Team India and land in Ireland for the two-match T20I series. He looks set to make his debut in the Ireland series. The left-handed batter is also part of the T20I squads for the England series and the Asian Games.
Sooryavanshi forced his way into the Indian team after winning the Orange Cap in IPL 2026. He piled up 776 runs in 16 matches. He hit 72 sixes and 63 fours in the tournament.
