At least two people were killed and three others, including an eight-year-old girl, were injured after a tourist vehicle plunged into a deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district on Thursday.
The accident took place near Sarsadi in the Manikaran Valley area when the vehicle, carrying tourists from Punjab, reportedly lost control and fell nearly 400 feet into the gorge.
Local residents and youths rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and launched a rescue operation. They climbed down into the gorge, rescued the injured passengers and brought them to safety before shifting them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police teams also reached the accident site and recovered the bodies of the two deceased victims. The bodies were later brought to the roadside and sent to Kullu Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Officials said the injured are receiving medical treatment, while the exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
Police have started an investigation into the incident and are gathering details about the victims and the circumstances that led to the vehicle falling into the gorge.
