The 2026 FIFA World Cup is upon us, and the world’s most popular sporting event is back. The 23rd edition of the tournament is a historic one, as it sees the first time that 48 teams are participating after the competition was expanded from a 32-team event (since 1998). This has led to teams like Cape Verde and Curacao qualifying for the first time in history and becoming two of the three smallest nations to ever play the mega event.
