India’s Silent Heatwave Crisis: Just One Day of Extreme Heat May Trigger 3,400 Excess Deaths

India has witnessed repeated severe heatwaves in recent years, with temperatures crossing 45°C in parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Gujarat. Doctors warn that extreme heat can overwhelm the body’s cooling mechanisms, leading to heat exhaustion, heatstroke, dehydration, kidney injury, heart complications, and organ failure.
