Mumbai: Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday praised the Mumbai Police, calling them “Kuchu Puchi” and “Pookie” as the party held a protest at Shivaji Park demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
However, Dipke criticised the Delhi Police and alleged that protesters were assaulted during the demonstration in Delhi.
“Even today when our companions were protesting in Delhi, he had them dragged through the streets,” Dipke said, referring to DCP Sachin Sharma. He also took a dig at Sharma, calling him “Home Minister Amit Shah’s General Dyer”
After the protest concluded, Dipke wrote on X, “Thank you, Mumbai Police, for your cooperation today. Salute to all the police personnel who were on duty! Jai Hindi. Delhi Police, seekh lo kuch Mumbai Police se”
Meanwhile hundreds of young protesters gathered for the CJP’s agitation against Gyanesh Kumar.
The protesters carried tricolours and placards with messages such as “Gyanu, Tujha Democracy Var Bharosa Nay Kay?”, “Gyanesh BRO, JUST RESIGN” and “Gaddaar Gyaanu Must Go”.
Activists from groups including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) also joined the protest.
Several celebrities and public figures were present at the protest, including veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi, singer-composer Vishal Dadlani, and activists Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.
