Pakistan didn’t field a single player against Israel in the opening round of the 46th FIDE World Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan. The Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) decided to give Israel a walkover, which meant that Israel won the game 4-0. “We have boycotted the match to express solidarity with the Palestinian people,” said CFP President Syed Zeeshan Naqvi. Pakistan are reeling at 119th in the FIDE rankings while Israel are 18th. The 46th FIDE World Chess Olympiad kicked off Wednesday (September 16).
