Haiwaan, starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, is set to bring Priyadarshan’s brand of serious, intense storytelling back to the Hindi screen. The film is based on the filmmaker’s acclaimed Malayalam thriller Oppam, which starred Mohanlal in the lead role. Released in 2016, Oppam revolved around a blind lift operator who uses his heightened senses to track down a dangerous killer. Priyadarshan has clarified that Haiwaan is not a scene-by-scene remake, it retains the soul of Oppam while adapting the story for a Hindi-speaking audience and a different setting.
