Petitioners stated that there are students who had been learning French for the past few years, but are now having to give it up due to the new language policy. Under the new framework, students are required to study three languages — R1, R2 and R3. At least two of these languages must be Indian languages, while the third can be a foreign language. English is also treated as a foreign language under this framework.
