The controversy began after PM Modi, while delivering his August 15 address, said India had succeeded in eliminating armed Naxalism from the forests but warned of a continuing threat from what he described as “dimagi Naxals” — people influenced by Maoist ideology whom he accused of promoting violence and pushing the country in the wrong direction.
