Fatigue Is Causing Your Weight Gain More Than Lack Of Exercise

One of the biggest links between fatigue and weight is sleep. Not getting enough quality sleep can interfere with hormones involved in appetite regulation. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute notes that sleep deficiency can increase ghrelin, a hormone associated with hunger, while reducing leptin, which helps signal fullness. In other words, after a poor night’s sleep, you may genuinely feel hungrier, not simply less disciplined. Research has also found that sleep restriction can increase cravings and calorie intake, particularly for energy-dense foods. In one NIH-funded randomised clinical trial, adults who increased their sleep duration consumed fewer calories than those who did not.
