Batwara 1947 is a historical drama set against the backdrop of India’s Partition, following Sikander Mirza, a Muslim man who moves to Lahore with his family and finds an elderly Hindu woman, Mai, living in their newly allotted haveli. As communal tensions rise and pressure mounts on Mai to leave, Sikander chooses compassion over hatred, putting his family and own safety at risk. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film explores themes of humanity, resilience, faith and moral courage, with Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi and Karan Deol leading the cast.
