Authorities said preliminary evidence points to a suspected murder suicide. Police believe the adult male killed the woman and child before taking his own life.

“This is a horrific, tragic situation for any community, especially in Hopkins where we don’t see this type of crime,” Johnson said.

Children At Daycare Safe

Other children present at the daycare were not harmed and were safely evacuated from the facility, police said.

The daycare is identified as Brown Bear Childcare, an in home facility on Tyler Avenue North. Property records indicate that the business was operated by Kristen Brown with her partner, Michael Hunt.

Officials have not confirmed whether the victims were the owners or operators of the daycare.
