New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) chief spokesperson Saurav Das has accused the Puducherry Police of harassing his family after claiming that police personnel visited his family home and subjected his relatives to questioning.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Das questioned the purpose and legality of the police visit and demanded to know who had ordered the action.
“Two hours ago, the Pondicherry Police showed up at my family’s home and subjected them to all kinds of questioning. Why this harassment, @PuducheryPolice? Who ordered this and for what purpose? Is this the legal procedure?” Das said.
He alleged that the BJP government in Puducherry was attempting to intimidate his family and claimed that the action was being carried out at the behest of the Union government. Das further alleged that the move was intended to pressure him into silence, but said the attempt would not work.
“If the intention is to intimidate me into silence, it will not work. This will not cower me down,” he said.
He added that the incident had instead strengthened his resolve to push for what he described as a better system, accusing the police of failing to uphold the law.
“This only strengthens our resolve to build a better system, one where the police uphold the law instead of acting like goondas!” Das said.
Das Alleges Centre’s Role
Das has directly linked the alleged police action to the BJP government in Puducherry and the Union government, suggesting that the visit was politically motivated.
However, there is currently no independent evidence in the PTI material establishing that the Union government ordered the police visit or that it was intended to intimidate Das. His claims remain allegations.
The PTI report on the episode did not carry a response from the Puducherry Police or the BJP’s Puducherry unit to Das’s allegations at the time of publication.
Earlier Claim Of Media Entering Delhi Home
The latest allegation comes days after Das claimed that around 15-20 YouTubers and media channels had entered his Delhi residence while he was away attending a CJP meeting in Maharashtra. Das had alleged that footage was recorded inside the house and raised concerns over the safety and privacy of his family.
Das has been a prominent spokesperson for the CJP during the student-led political mobilisation in recent weeks. PTI has previously reported his involvement in the outfit’s protests and negotiations with the government, including the organisation’s demands concerning cases filed against protesters.
