Dileep Kumar Bhungaravula, an Indian student from Andhra Pradesh studying at Kent State University, died in a road accident in Ohio on August 7 after the vehicle he was driving was involved in a collision on Interstate 480 in Macedonia.
According to Cleveland19, law enforcement officers found both a sedan and a pickup truck at the crash site. Dileep was pronounced dead at the scene, while three other people were taken to hospital with injuries.
Dileep was originally from Jettivaripalli in Chitvel Mandal, Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh. He had travelled to the United States to pursue his education at Kent State University.
Indian Consulate Offers Support To Family
The Consulate General of India in New York expressed condolences following Dileep’s death and said it was in contact with his family.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the untimely demise of Mr. Dileep Kumar Bungatavula, an Indian national, who tragically lost his life in a car accident in Ohio on August 7, 2026,” the consulate said in a post on X.
It added that its thoughts were with Dileep’s family and that it was providing all possible assistance.
North America Telugu Society Launches Fundraiser
Following his death, the North America Telugu Society launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Dileep’s family and help meet expenses arising from the tragedy.
According to the fundraiser, Dileep came to the US with the goal of completing his education and building a future for himself and his family.
The organisation said his parents had made significant sacrifices to finance his education. His father, Sreehari Bungatavula, is a farmer, and the family comes from modest financial circumstances.
The sudden death has left his parents and brother facing both emotional and financial difficulties, the fundraiser said.
It added that Dileep had outstanding educational and personal loan obligations, further increasing the financial burden on his family.
The fundraiser has set a target of $100,000 to assist the family during this difficult period.
Dileep’s death has also drawn attention within the Indian student community in the US, as his family and friends mourn the loss of a young student who had travelled thousands of kilometres from Andhra Pradesh to pursue higher education.
