Gurugram: A brief spell of rain on Tuesday was enough to bring large parts of Gurugram to a standstill, with key roads submerged, vehicles breaking down and commuters stranded amid severe waterlogging.
The road beneath the busy IFFCO Chowk Metro Station was inundated after nearly an hour of rainfall, disrupting movement during the evening rush hour. Commuters were seen removing their shoes and wading through water, while many used narrow sections of the footpath to avoid the flooded stretches.
Several auto-rickshaws reportedly broke down after getting stuck in the waterlogged roads, while metro passengers struggled to reach the station due to the flooding around the area.
Sukhrali Chowk Flooded, Traffic Crawls
Similar scenes were reported from Sukhrali Chowk, where knee-deep water accumulated on roads, causing major traffic snarls. Residents also shared videos on social media showing flooded streets and long queues of vehicles across different parts of the Millennium City.
The heavy congestion coincided with the evening office rush, leaving commuters stuck for extended periods.
Across Haryana, light to moderate rainfall was recorded at several places over the past 24 hours, while a few areas witnessed heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
According to official data, the highest rainfall in the state was recorded at Tajewala in Yamunanagar district with 7 cm, followed by Hathnikund Barrage AWS with 5 cm. Nagina in Nuh district recorded 1 cm of rainfall. In Gurugram district, the administration said Sohna received the highest rainfall between 8 am and 5 pm on Monday at 23 mm, followed by Gurugram tehsil with 12 mm. Wazirabad recorded 3 mm of rainfall, while Badshahpur received 1 mm.
Delhi-NCR To See More Rain
The showers came as parts of Delhi-NCR witnessed light rainfall, offering relief from humid weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain on Wednesday and issued a yellow alert for the national capital.
According to the IMD, Ayanagar recorded nearly 50 mm of rainfall, the highest among Delhi’s weather stations on Tuesday. The weather office has also predicted widespread rainfall across Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab and east Uttar Pradesh between August 4 and August 6, with rain activity likely to continue over Delhi in the coming days.
