A Southwest Airlines flight arriving from Fort Myers, Florida, experienced a landing gear issue while touching down at Chicago Midway International Airport, prompting an emergency response but causing no injuries.
Flight 1243, operated by a Boeing 737, reported smoke near its landing gear after landing, according to Chicago fire officials.
Southwest Airlines later confirmed that both nose gear tyres lost air pressure during landing, requiring the aircraft to be towed from the runway after mechanics replaced the damaged tyres.
“Mechanics changed the tires and towed the aircraft to the gate,” the airline said in a statement.
The carrier apologised to passengers for the disruption, adding, “Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees.”
Emergency crews responded to the aircraft after smoke was reported near the landing gear. However, officials said no passengers or crew members were injured.
The aircraft was safely moved to the gate following repairs, and the incident did not result in any reported injuries. Southwest has not indicated what caused the loss of tyre pressure, and the matter remains under review.
