Iran has revealed what it says is a list of strategic energy facilities across the Gulf and in Israel that could be targeted if the United States or Israel launches fresh military strikes, escalating tensions in the region despite renewed diplomatic efforts.
The warning came just hours before US President Donald Trump announced that the broad “parameters” of a possible agreement with Tehran had been reached, prompting him to put planned military action on hold, for now.
Trump Says Planned Attacks Put On Hold
In a social media post on Saturday evening, Trump said Middle East allies had agreed on the broad framework of a deal aimed at ending the five-month-old conflict with Iran.
According to Trump, the proposed agreement would include the “immediate, complete, and total” reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, along with measures to eliminate what he described as Iran’s nuclear threat.
“Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL,” Trump wrote.
He also claimed that Israel had agreed to work alongside the United States in pursuing a diplomatic solution to end the conflict.
Tehran Draws Up List Of Energy Sites.
Trump’s announcement came hours after reports emerged that Iran had prepared a detailed retaliation plan in anticipation of possible US strikes on its energy infrastructure.
According to Iranian news agency Tasnim, the list includes several of the Gulf’s most critical oil and gas assets, signalling the scale of Tehran’s potential response if the conflict escalates further.
Saudi Arabia’s Key Oil Facilities Named
Among the reported targets in Saudi Arabia are the Ghawar oil field, the world’s largest conventional oil field, the Abqaiq oil processing facility, and the Khurais oil field—all considered vital to the kingdom’s oil production.
UAE And Qatar Energy Hubs On List
The reported target list also includes the Zakum oil field and the Ruways refinery in the United Arab Emirates.
In Qatar, Tehran has reportedly identified the North Field, the world’s largest natural gas field and the Ras Laffan Industrial City, one of the world’s biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) export hubs.
Israel, Kuwait And Bahrain Also Mentioned
According to the report, Iran has also listed Kuwait’s Burgan oil field, Bahrain’s Sitra refinery and Al-Mihaj, along with Israel’s Leviathan and Tamar offshore natural gas fields, as potential targets.
‘Prepared For Any Escalation’: Iran
A senior Iranian security official quoted by Tasnim said Tehran had completed plans to respond if Washington or its allies launched another military operation.
“We have prepared a comprehensive plan to respond to any potential American recklessness,” the official said.
Trump Weighing Options As Diplomacy Continues
Meanwhile, Axios, citing a US official, reported that Trump has been seriously considering strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure, although no final decision has been taken.
With both military threats and diplomatic efforts unfolding simultaneously, the region remains on edge as Washington and Tehran weigh their next moves.
