Veteran actor Vincent Pastore, best known for playing Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero in HBO’s The Sopranos, has died at the age of 80. The actor was found dead at his residence in the Bronx on Friday after a neighbour reportedly became concerned when he had not been seen or heard from for three days.

Born on July 14, 1946, in the Bronx, New York, Pastore served in the Vietnam War before earning a drama degree from Pace University.
After appearing in films including Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, he achieved international recognition in 1999 as Big Pussy Bonpensiero, Tony Soprano’s longtime friend and mob associate in HBO’s acclaimed crime drama The Sopranos. His character’s fate became one of the series’ most memorable storylines.
Long career in film and television
Beyond The Sopranos, Pastore appeared in numerous films, including Mickey Blue Eyes, Riding in Cars with Boys, Shark Tale, Money Train, Revolver and Serving Sara.
His television credits included Law & Order, The Practice, One Life to Live, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, Yellowjackets and Gravesend.
He also became a familiar face on reality television, appearing on Celebrity Apprentice, Dancing With the Stars, Celebrity Family Feud, Celebrity Fit Club and hosting The Wiseguy Show on SiriusXM.
Tributes
Pastore’s longtime manager, Bob McGowan, remembered him as a generous and compassionate person.
“Vinnie was a great guy. He would help anyone and was very charitable,” McGowan said.
