Brehampur: In a remarkable display of swift coordination and emergency response, Odisha Police created an 80-kilometre Green Corridor to save the life of a critically injured schoolboy in Puri district.
The victim, Prabhudatta Jena, a Class V student from Patharakata village under Krushnaprasad block, is currently battling for his life at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, after a horrific bicycle accident.
According to reports, the young boy was returning home from school when he lost control of his bicycle and fell. During the fall, the bicycle’s handlebar pierced his abdomen, entering from one side and protruding from the other, leaving him critically injured.
Villagers immediately rushed to his rescue and shifted him to a nearby hospital in an ambulance. However, due to the severity of his injuries, doctors referred him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.
Realising that every minute was crucial, Puri SDPO Manas Ranjan Barik, along with the Krushnaprasad Police, coordinated with police units to establish an 80-kilometre traffic-free Green Corridor, ensuring the ambulance could travel without delay.
The seamless coordination significantly reduced travel time and enabled the child to reach the hospital at the earliest.
A team of specialist doctors at MKCG Medical College and Hospital is currently treating the boy, who remains in critical condition. Doctors are making every effort to save his life as he continues to fight a difficult battle.
The incident has drawn widespread appreciation for the prompt response of the police, whose timely action may have given the young student a crucial chance of survival
