Bhubaneswar: The controversy surrounding the animated film “Jay Jagannath” has taken a fresh turn after the Supreme Court permitted its release and Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati reportedly questioned the judiciary’s role in deciding matters of religion and religious traditions. While the apex court granted relief to the filmmakers by allowing the film’s release from July 28, 2026, the Shankaracharya’s reported remarks have reignited a nationwide debate over religious sentiments, artistic freedom, and the portrayal of Lord Jagannath on screen.
