The Lancet study warns that India’s ageing population, increasing burden of chronic diseases, and rising incidence of organ failure will significantly increase transplant demand over the next two decades. By 2040, the projected annual requirement is expected to reach 143,722 kidney transplants, 210,649 liver transplants, 95,711 heart transplants and 12,846 lung transplants.
